About the Worshipful Master
Brother Edward N Lewis was elected and installed as Worshipful Master of Anniversary Lodge of Research No. 175 for the July 8, 2007 - July 7, 2008 term.
Ed was born May 10, 1944, in Concord NH. He has lived there most of his life. While in school he became a Life Boy Scout. After graduating from Concord High he moved to Clemson, SC to attend college. A change of study brought him back to what was then NH College of Accounting and Commerce on Hanover St. in Manchester, NH where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree.
Ed had a long career with the State of NH starting in the Accounting Office at the Department of Transportation and then with the Department of Employment Security. There he worked his way through the Accounting department then switched into Property Management and Administrative Services. At his retirement party his boss said “Many times when I found out about a problem Ed had a solution already in place”.
Ed has always been a very busy person with many activities outside of work. Early on in his adult career of volunteer work Ed was instrumental in the birth of a CB radio group in Concord called REACT (Radio Emergency Active Communications Team). REACT members were involved in many activities to help the citizens in central NH. It was through this organization Ed became instrumental in establishing “Operation Crime Stop” working as citizens with the Concord Police department. When Concord had a series of air shows you would see Ed working on the sound system for the entire airport complex tied in with communications throughout the field for the shows. During this time he became involved with Red Cross disaster work and held the position of Disaster Director in Concord for over 25 years seeing to the needs of people burned out of houses or setting up shelters for storms that left some people temporally homeless.
He served for many years on the Board of Directors for both Red Cross and March of Dimes.
His Masonic career started November 21, 1959 in Rumford Chapter, Order of DeMolay, as Treasurer, and then in 1962 he became a Representative DeMolay. More recently he was invested with the DeMolay Legion of Honor. His adult Masonic career started when he was raised in Horace Chase Lodge No. 72 in Penacook NH on January 9, 1969. In Horace Chase he has been on the Finance Committee since 1995, has been the Marshal since 1998. On October 14, 1997 he completed visiting every Blue Lodge in NH. He has been the Grand Lodge representative to Israel since 1999.
In 1990 Ed joined Scottish Rite in the Valley of Concord where in 1995 he became the Secretary for which he has established a full service office to serve the members of the valley, Still looking for something to do, in 1998 he became the Secretary for the Scottish Rite New Hampshire Council of Deliberation. He was elected to receive the Meritorious Service Award in 1997.
In 1997-98. he joined the Chapter, Council and Commandery of York Rite in Concord, then in 2000 went on in York Rite to join the Scenic Council No. 37 Order of Knight Masons, and in 2003 joined the Royal Ark Mariner – Sponsored by Victoria Council No. 4, Canada, In 1999 he joined Bektash Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. and has participated in the first section since then
Since 1983 he has been active in the Masonic Motorcycle Club serving as Secretary and then Treasurer of the NH chapter and MMCI International – chairman and member of the Audit & Finance Committee. In 1993 became a member #851 in the “Sword of Bunker Hill”. Since 1996 he has been a member of Anniversary Lodge of Research No. 175 and is currently Master for the 2007-08 term. In 1996 joined the Journeyman’s Lodge No. 1797, Northumberland NH, as member No. 156. In 1997 he joined Priscilla Chapter Order of Eastern Star along with his wife, Judi who went on to become the Worthy Matron of the chapter. She has since been the Grand Electa for the Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in NH. Together they have been in many of the affiliated groups. Since 1998 he joined and has participated with the Major General William Whipple Military Lodge , and then in 2000 joined William Pitt Tavern Lodge No. 1789 as a Charter Member.
He married Clarice (Knowlton) and has one daughter, Annette who lives in Fairbanks, Alaska working at the University of Alaska. In addition to his daughter, Ed also raised four children; the closest of which is Julie, who with her three children, live in Osseo, WI. Grandpa Ed enjoys his time with the grandkids when ever he gets a chance (which isn’t near often enough). On July 25, 1987 he married Judith (Judi) Dalrymple and added to the list of children and grand-children. Judi has a son that with his wife has four more granddaughters and son (the oldest Grandson) and they live in Danbury NH.
